Golf swing speed is the determining factor that will make you rip it farther with each club. But that doesn't necessarily mean you just have to swing harder to get more speed. Here are 3 keys to help you increase your swing speed so you can start hitting the ball a lot further.

1) Swing On Plane- When we don't swing back and through the ball in the same plane, the power we create with our body swinging the club is wasted.

Think about trying to hammer in a nail...if you pulled the hammer back and to the left, and then looped the hammer and tried to hammer in the nail coming from the right, down to the left...well, we'd have a bent nail and a few dings on the wood!

Hitting the nail with a straight up and down motion is basically hitting in a nail with a motion that is "on plane". More power is transferred to hitting the nail in solidly, and the speed of the hammer doesn't need to be as fast and it is still powerful.

Keep this simple mentality when swinging a golf club and your swing power will increase dramatically!

2) Swing Under Your Chin- By keeping your head relatively in place during the impact, you are allowing for a full release of the wrists. This simple move will add club-head speed and power.

3) Workout Your Core- This means strengthening your abs, back, and oblique muscles. Core strength is the most important key to increased swing speed and power of golf shots. TIP: Try a yoga class once or twice a week, the core is used in every position and dramatically increases your power and flexibility...which also helps your swing speed!
